Project description
Adaptive Architects helped the City of Mesa select the final project site for the Fiesta District Police Station from several potential project locations that were being considered. The facility is situated in Mesa’s Fiesta District, a once thriving retail and business core that had languished over time. The City of Mesa identified the area with a redevelopment overlay, and this municipal facility became the first building to be designed and constructed based on Mesa’s new Fiesta District Development Standards.
This two-story building is oriented to face the street in order to optimally highlight its public safety focus. The facility was designed to house 170 officers and support personnel, and features command offices on the ground floor with investigations on the second floor. The project incorporates LEED certification building principles, integrated solar panel covered parking areas, an auditorium style briefing room, community room, and outdoor community spaces. The overall design concept is based on a philosophy of establishing a community bond between the law enforcement officers protecting the area and the surrounding neighborhood fabric. The end result is a valued police facility that is seen as an asset in its neighborhood and which helped usher in a new exciting future for the reimagined Fiesta District.
